Laura @muhajabah
There are times when I really worry about things getting out of control. The levels of anger, hate & violence seem particularly high lately.
Laura @muhajabah
Victims are Afghans, French Jews, an African American, and an Iraqi American. Killers are white, Latino, Muslim. Isn't about any 1 group.
Laura @muhajabah
There's a tendency to be most outraged when victim is "us" & forget that sometimes the "us" will also be the perpetrator.
Laura @muhajabah
I feel this particularly as a Muslim. #ShaimaAlawadi was killed for her faith. Mohammad Merah killed others in name of the same faith.
Laura @muhajabah
Standing up for justice requires that I condemn Merah as much as I do Robert Bales or whoever killed #Shaima. That I mourn *all* the victims
Laura @muhajabah
And, similarly, those most outraged over Merah because it "proves" something to them about Islam need to care as much about Bales & #Shaima
Laura @muhajabah
If all we take from any 1 of these incidents is to reinforce our ideas about American soldiers, Muslim extremists, whoever, we've failed.
Laura @muhajabah
Challenge to us is to see common humanity in all the victims & that what's common about killers isn't their nationality, race, or religion
Laura @muhajabah
It's that they dehumanized others to justify violence. What makes a person do that? How can we stop them. Those are answers we need to seek.
Laura @muhajabah
And do our own soul-searching. Are there ppl or groups we may be prejudiced against? Stopping the hate starts in our own souls above all.
Laura @muhajabah
An incident that happened to me yesterday ( https://t.co/LQWushBg ) has really brought home both #Trayvon & #Shaima to me.
Laura @muhajabah
The slur that was used is typically directed at Arabs & was because of my #hijab. But it contained the ugliest of slurs used again Black ppl
Laura @muhajabah
And w/ #Trayvon so much in the news, I couldn't help but think about whether my #hijab was a "Muslim hoodie". I think maybe it is.
Laura @muhajabah
Thankfully, I was never in any danger. But definitely thought "There but for the grace of God go I" when I read about #Shaima tonight.
Laura @muhajabah
I pray that we can come together, whatever our race, religion, or other identity & work for understanding, healing & justice.
Laura @muhajabah
How do you hold the pain of the world without being swallowed whole by it? http://t.co/QINySgZR // Good advice for us all right now.
Charlene A. Carruthers @CharleneCac
I dont know how I feel about folks wearing Hijabs in protest of Shaima's murder. Like...its a religious/spiritual act no?
Charlene A. Carruthers @CharleneCac
Any Muslims who wear Hijab on my TL? What are your thoughts?
Laura @muhajabah
@CharleneCac I appreciate expressions of solidarity, but what's more valuable is ppl speaking up against ignorance and hate.
Charlene A. Carruthers @CharleneCac
Thats the real and tougher work. It's easier to go to a rally and don the hijab. Being a ally isnt easy. @muhajabah
Charlene A. Carruthers @CharleneCac
We can take the easy choice, or go in for the long haul.
Laura @muhajabah
@CharleneCac THIS. As a white woman, I'm not #Trayvon & can't be. You aren't Muslim. But as ourselves we can work for justice & healing.

I think @sassycrass raises some good points about issues with that article asking where protests for Shaima Alwadi are...
