NewsConnoisseur & CK_MacLeod chat about what words mean

CK_MacLeod seemed to say in his initial tweet at Glenn Greenwald that referring to Haim Saban (who said "I'm a one-issue guy and my issue is Israel") as an "Israel firster" is unfair. I wanted to understand why this was unfair, so I asked CK_MacLeod some questions. Truthfully, I think he basically dodged them with a bunch of metaphysical gobbledygook.

CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@ggreenwald @attackerman it's jejune to claim that e.g. "I'm a one-issue guy" is the same thing as what's meant by "Israel 1st"
Joe @NewsConnoisseur
@CK_MacLeod Ur right. If sum1 says "only thing I care about is X", its inaccurate 2 say they put "X 1st", b/c theres not even a 2nd, or 3rd.
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur well, that's true, too! tho not what I was getting at, of course - "I'm a one-issue guy" is speaking loosely, not treason
Joe @NewsConnoisseur
@CK_MacLeod Who said it treason? Issue was whether calling him Iisrael firster" is fair. Based on his words, its actually too generous
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur SAID "treason": Few. Implied quasi-treasonous intent: All. Closer parsing of terms'd bust the Twitter.
Joe @NewsConnoisseur
@CK_MacLeod Is using phrase "Israel 1ster" an implication that he is quasi treasonous? Or a more than fair description of his own words?
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur No, not a fair description: Characterizing one's political focus is not the same as swearing allegiance to another nation
Joe @NewsConnoisseur
@CK_MacLeod By the way, I'd like to amend my word "inaccurate" and change it to "misleading" in this tweet http://t.co/215VL63q
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur Adelson's statements probably do qualify, however - IMO.
Joe @NewsConnoisseur
@CK_MacLeod So if someone says, "The Economy is my #1 and only issue", it would be unfair to call him an "Economy firster"?
Joe @NewsConnoisseur
@CK_MacLeod Let's just stick with Saban for this discussion. I'm trying to understand the rules.
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur reason it's worth pointing out philosophical absurdity of "plainly true idea" is that it glosses over the actual question
Joe @NewsConnoisseur
@CK_MacLeod I don't know what you mean. Can you clarify by using a twitlonger?
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur I'll tweet you later when I sit down to write on this subject. In short, no such thing as "plainly true idea"
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur people assert plainly true ideas in politics when unwilling to confront their own unexamined assumptions/intentions
Joe @NewsConnoisseur
@CK_MacLeod I don't see y we have 2 get into the metaphysical - or wherever we r @ this point - 2 decide whether a statement is fair or not
Joe @NewsConnoisseur
@CK_MacLeod There's no mathematical accuracy when it comes 2 language. I asked a simple question about fairness &, frankly, ur dodging it
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur Felt I answered directly at https://t.co/5iIxodwW a further parsing would require agreement on meaning of "Israel First"
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur not just agreed definition of term, but adequate agreement about its uses, meanings in context - to assert "plain truth"...
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur is simply to say "I am right, you are wrong, no further discussion, no discussion at all" the def is what's been contested
CK MacLeod @CK_MacLeod
@NewsConnoisseur now I'm sorry if that comes across as cryptic or garbled, but it's Twitter & I've got to attend to some business - later!
Joe @NewsConnoisseur
@CK_MacLeod I asked u for *your* opinion as to whether something very specific was fair or not and u refuse to give me a yes or no
