Aishling Donohoe @AshDonohoe
Hi all, Aishling here pp Science and Maths teacher. First #edchatie of the year for me. Great topic to discuss!
Aishling Donohoe @AshDonohoe
@shffnn Don't panic, lots of support available from other teachers and pdst. #edchatie
🧬 Emma Daniel @AGRIemma
@fboss Hi to all here at tonight's #edchatie I'm Emma, post primary science teacher.
fboss @fboss
Fred Boss, 2nd level Art teacher, currently with @NCCAie CBAs are a Post Primary thing, so wondering if any Primary or Third Level people will turn out tonight? #edchatie
Liam Guilfoyle @LiamDGuilfoyle
@fboss #edchatie intro: Liam here👋, post-primary science ed background, recently started as a research officer in the University of Oxford but still very interested in what's happening for teachers&students at home - so I'm more listening and asking questions than contributing tonight.
Aishling Donohoe @AshDonohoe
I'm a fan of the CBA (in science anyway) and find students really shine completing them! One issue I have is that they are all planned for same time of yr. Lot of work for students at an already busy time! #edchatie
Ciara Reilly @PrimEdTeacher
An absolutely fascinating show on BBC1 now all about 7,000+ schools in England that are now run by private trusts. They're not *supposed* to profit in this role, and yet... #edchatie
Emer Whyte @EmerWhyte
Hi all. Emer here. English and Geography teacher in the west. Rarely make #edchatie but love to follow!
Wayne Gibbons @TheWayneGibbons
@fboss Hi. I’m Wayne, a lecturer. I’ve just come across the #edchatie a few minutes ago, so I’ll try to dip in when I can.
Liam Guilfoyle @LiamDGuilfoyle
@AshDonohoe Did you find you needed to introduce CBA-like activities early on? If so, when and how? #edchatie
fboss @fboss
Ok - let's begin. I guess you can see CBAs in the Framework = education.ie/en/Publication… But most teachers will probably be more familiar/interested in their own subject-specific ones. Check out curriculumonline.ie/Junior-cycle #edchatie
Conor Murphy @conorsmurf
A short thread for tonight's discussion. CBAs (subjects do two classroom based assessments, one of which is a presentation) are an example of what happens when someone has a good idea but hasn't thought through how best to implement that idea. #edchatie
Ciara Reilly @PrimEdTeacher
This is a fantastic resource, and rather timely to share considering the findings of the @CyberSafeIE Annual Report today. #edchatie twitter.com/Webwise_Irelan…
J. Sweeney @mssweeneyhomeec
#edchatie not stressed about the CBA's in my subject as not a huge change per say but I do think as more & more subjects/CBA's are rolled out we are going to move away from one of their original intentions - to alleviate stress of terminal exam as so many are packed in together
Sandra Ní Dhubhda @dhubhda
Interesting programme on an Academy Chain school on BBC now. Very alarming! #edchatie
Aishling Donohoe @AshDonohoe
@LiamDGuilfoyle I gave my students the opportunity to design their own expts from the beginning of 2nd yr. Gave them limited list of ewuipment and set boundaries. They planned within them. I supervised expts and they wrote it up after. Worked v well! #edchatie
John Heffernan @johnmayo
#edchatie Some teachers I talked to while I was in the States were shocked that we had an all or nothing terminal exam esp. with no repeats. Lots of CBA and woe be you if you do not keep up todate with your marking.
Emer Whyte @EmerWhyte
My 1st experience with CBAs opened my eyes to the possibility of all students' sense of achievement when given choice and flexibility. I was also surprised at my own bias or perception of what students were capable of. A learning journey for both teacher and students #edchatie
