School Bus Protests #edchatie If there are lessons to be learned from the protests from parents about not getting on to a Bus Eireann service, it's that we have to analyse why the situation happened in... rte.ie/news/leinster/…
fboss @fboss
OK - let's begin . . . What are your thoughts on "'Senior cycle reform' - how can we ensure we do it right?" Remember to include the #edchatie hashtag in all of your tweets for the next hour - they'll be collated and available after the discussion
John Heffernan @johnmayo
#edchatie I thought most subjects were reformed at this stage.
John Loughlin @j_loughlin
@fboss @NCCAie John Loughlin, Biology teacher @stjosephsbish and Chair @IrishSciTeach I think it's very important that sensationalist headlines we all saw in the middle of August don't form the basis of '#screform' and that any changes are *fully* evidence-based. #edchatie
Damien @languagesdude
Looking forward to hearing this coversation . Damien MFL teacher from Waterford #edchatie
Damien @languagesdude
In order to “do it right “ I really do think we need to connect with teachers throughout the EU more #edchatie
Julie Heeney @julesheeney
Buy in from teachers is huge. Each school should have a representative offering feedback. I know there are voluntary feedback forms available but if JC reform taught us anything, it’s that majority of teachers don’t engage in that feedback #edchatie
Eistear de Búrca @GermanTeachIRL
@fboss #edchatie Eistear from Mayo, MFL etc. Senior Cycle reform must be be based genuinely on teacher input every step of the way, if it has to happen.
Irene Stone @istone_irene
Great to be one of the 41 collaborating schools involved in #seniorcyclereview. Offers great opportunity to hear views of teachers, parents, students #edchatie
fboss @fboss
@johnmayo They are at Junior Cycle level with a few done at Senior Cycle - but #seniorcyclereview is looking at the whole of Senior Cycle as it currently is. Check out ncca.ie/en/senior-cycl… #edchatie
History_bomb_ @history_bomber
@fboss Hi, Brian from St Michael’s history - im really hoping those involved, leave the Leaving Cert history course alone, as the new curriculum since 2006 is modern, balanced & offers huge potential to create & think critically (just extend dates of the project past 1989) #edchatie
Dáire Lambert @daire_lambert
@j_loughlin @fboss @NCCAie @stjosephsbish @IrishSciTeach Completely agree. I think we should consider what works currently for us just as much as what doesn't #edchatie
fboss @fboss
@languagesdude Interesting idea, Damien. There is a collection of International Research -> ncca.ie/en/senior-cycl… #edchatie #seniorcyclereview
Brendan O'Sullivan @brenos100
Senior Cycle Reform cannot be rushed, like private industry would like. We have one chance to get it right. Piecemeal tinkering will fail. Reform should build on the changes in JC. #edchatie
John Heffernan @johnmayo
#edchatie Having worked on a number of innovative projects in ACPS, the rate of change here is too slow. the world these students are facing is far faster than civil service mandarins are comfortable. I think they are happy in being a 2nd rate educational system
J. Sweeney @mssweeneyhomeec
@MccoySelina #edchatie but how much will actually be taken on board? I remember participating in the NCCA surveys for junior cycle reform & the minister of the day largely ignored the results & proceeded with his own "vision"
John Heffernan @johnmayo
#edchatie I have noticed how teacher centred the Irish education system is. Let the students follow their own passions.
fboss @fboss
@history_bomber Interested to know if and how the LC History curriculum would be best implemented through other subjects? #edchatie #seniorcyclereview
