R.I.P Sarah Burke. The world of sports will miss you20/01/2012 16:14:18 WIB
A great surprise and sad news when scanning the twitter trends last night: the death of Sarah Burke.
However, nothing was mentioned so far on the radio in the sports news section.
One week after a training accident, she died from injuries.
She was injured in a superpipe accident at Park City in the US state of Utah on 11th January 2012.
A real shame to see that a future young champion but already 4 time Winter X Games champion didn't survive serious trauma to her brain.
Some could say, this can be seen as an accident at work but with a really bad ending. But some sports, where speed is involved can lead to fatal accidents, unfortunately!
...Burke tore her vertebral artery as a result of the fall, which led to severe bleeding on the brain. That caused her to go into cardiac arrest on the scene, where CPR was performed...''' source: bbc news
Most of us would have hoped that she survived, of course.
But, spinal cord injuries is never fun neither for the victim nor for the family and friends.
Sarah Burke had a bright career, but the destiny has chosen differently. She will survive in our memories and her organs and tissues were donated as per her wishes.
