@timeoutcorner Hey, really great discussion on various "shapes" of government. And I must say, quite relevant for the coming few years!
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator Thank you! Very relevant indeed. IMO, nearly anything is preferable to the present circumstances that many face worldwide.
Chirpinator @chirpinator
@timeoutcorner Indeed! We need more of these discussions to come to some understanding of how to change things.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator I utterly agree. My only concern is whether or not those discussions will penetrate deep enough into systemic assumptions.
Chirpinator @chirpinator
@timeoutcorner Well, that's where perseverance is necessary. There are sparks...consider the Arab Spring!...but they need foundations.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator Quite right. Those who philosophise on the movement of the world inevitably play catch-up to the direction of humanity.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator IMO, those who can keep up the closest with the supple changes of humanity are those who will best help inform the future.
Chirpinator @chirpinator
@timeoutcorner I would argue that there is a place for said philosophizing. The key is taking it out of the ivory tower.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator Oh yes. I'm a big proponent of practical philosophy. That's the serious mis-step of post-19th Century Western philosophy.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator To that end, IMO those who wish to philosophise in a useful manner are wise to chase the edge of systemic restructuring.
Chirpinator @chirpinator
@timeoutcorner Good point. It's how you can be part of the stream of progress rather than the stone standing in the way of the current.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator Very Buddhist, and I completely agree. If one wishes to facilitate evolution & enlightenment, the drift of the future is best.
Chirpinator @chirpinator
@timeoutcorner I hadn't particularly conceived of it as a Buddhist thought, but I suppose you're correct. Shape the flow you see.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator Perhaps I impose Buddhism unnecessarily. :P But I completely agree: Facilitate and inform, rather than control and dictate.
Chirpinator @chirpinator
@timeoutcorner I'd argue that was the secret to Ghandi and MLK's success.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator Absolutely. In fact, Gandhi said that if he spoke truth, people would listen, and if he didn't, people wouldn't. They did! :)
Chirpinator @chirpinator
@timeoutcorner Oh, I'd forgotten about that quote! What a lot of wisdom that man had.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator He was a saint without a doubt, IMO. Have you ever read his 'My Experiments With Truth'? One of my most favourite books.
Chirpinator @chirpinator
@timeoutcorner I regret that I've never read it in full. I gather that he was as persuasive a writer as he was a leader?
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator Very much so. I have philosophic differences with him on some levels, but he deeply influences me nonetheless.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator And that's, I think, a sign of just how incredible a person he was. :)
Chirpinator @chirpinator
@timeoutcorner It's a pity this generation doesn't (yet) have its Ghandi.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator I fear it shall be a long time before practical philosophy makes a comeback. Not to say it won't happen, just probably not now.
Chirpinator @chirpinator
@timeoutcorner Unfortunately, I suspect that you're correct. But perhaps we're laying the foundation for a time when it can.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@chirpinator I certainly hope so, my friend. There is a huge amount of rebuilding which needs to happen, worldwide. So much has been lost.
