#SLPsnQs for today: how would you feel about parents videoing your tx session & uploading to youtube? Issues to discuss/resolve? #slpeeps
Tanya Coyle @SLPTanya
As it often is, today's #SLPsnQs was brought to you by @speechieLO - thanks, Lauren! Din't forget to include the hashtag in your response.
Heather @HDunzo
@SLPTanya #SLPsnQs I think it would be great for the parents as a way to carryover the lessons learned during the session!
Tanya Coyle @SLPTanya
@HDunzo so it wouldn't bother you that they've put you on Youtube? What if they didn't ask your permission first? #SLPsnQs
Heather @HDunzo
@SLPTanya #SLPsnQs There are negatives to the uploading though, parents may feel they can get all the information they need from a video
Heather @HDunzo
@SLPTanya #SLPsnQs ...and not seek the professional help of an SLP, since they feel they have learned all they need to know from a video
Priya Desai @PriyaDesaiSLT
@SLPTanya: #SLPsnQs for today: mmm not sure? If it was to show something new & creative I'd think about it.
Tanya Coyle @SLPTanya
@HDunzo I see that as problematic. Like a family I met who was attempting PROMPT techniques while waiting for a referral to SLP! #SLPsnQs
Heather @HDunzo
@SLPTanya #SLPsnQs I would NOT be happy about that! They would of course need my permission. I would make the video viewable to only that
Tanya Coyle @SLPTanya
@priyaauthor how do you think they'd know what was new and creative and when to upload or not upload? #SLPsnQs
Tanya Coyle @SLPTanya
@HDunzo ah, but the Q was how you'd feel about THE FAMILY taping your session and uploading, not YOU uploading! #SLPsnQs
Heather @HDunzo
@SLPTanya #SLPsnQs ...family so they could carryover some of the techniques they learned in therapy.
Tanya Coyle @SLPTanya
@HDunzo yes, I LOVE that idea! seeing it again would be very helpful to them #SLPsnQs
Rebecca Lavelle @SpeechieSLP
@SLPTanya #SLPsnQs #SLPeeps NO WAY! That is why I don't ever videotape my sessions, except for my ax use. Opens up HUGE liability issues!
Kim Lewis @activitytailor
#SLPsnQs Would insist on release for all parties. Also, what if edited a small section not reflective of tx? sometimes tx requires context.
Speech Dudes @SpeechDudes
@slptanya I'd be curious about WHY they want it on YouTube. If it's an aide memoire, they can watch it on their compute/recorder. #SLPsnQs
Speech Dudes @SpeechDudes
#SLPsnQs YouTube is a public forum, so what's the value of my session on a public forum? What would it be used (misused) for?
Kelsey W @kelseynw
@SLPTanya We have a mom that has done that with a child at our clinic, but we've known her for years. In a typical case.. hmm.. I'm torn.
Tanya Coyle @SLPTanya
@SpeechDudes that'd be my biggest concern, although I have to admit to using uploaded tx/ax sessions in class as examples #SLPsnQs
Tanya Coyle @SLPTanya
@kelseynw did that mom every explain why she puts them on youtube? #SLPsnQs
Laura @speechpath68
@SLPTanya one of my fb friends posted a video of her son in speech therapy. It made therapy look ineffective & odd.
Laura @speechpath68
@SLPTanya The boy was totally off task & SLP was doing a strange prolongation task that taken out of context seemed ridiculous.
Lauren Osborne @speechieLO
#SLPsnQs I worry about the professional not having the control to delete it, if they later realise it wasn't best practice!
