My Two #PlanB Rants & Surprising Hope for the Left

Last night I flew into two separate rages on Twitter about the manner in which folks on the left were discussing the Obama Administration's controversial Plan B decision. Me? Flying into a rage about Obama? NEVER HAPPENS. *ahem* Read More

And I may be a dyed-in-the-wool Obot, but today's Plan B medication decision was a terrible call. http://t.co/5zr4rhL6

@ZandarVTS heads exploding all over cyberspace at the idea that Obamabots don't defend POTUS under any circumstances. ;-)

Hang on... Are my friends on the left saying 11 and 12 year olds should be able to buy Plan B off the shelf at CVS? Really???

09/12/2011 02:38:30 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

@mommadona um... If a child that young gets pregnant, there are serious pathologies that require help, not a toddle over to the drugstore.

09/12/2011 02:42:57 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

@mommadona Plan B is a grownup drug, not a multivitamin. A doctor. & parent or counselor should be involved. As a parent, I'm all WTF libs?

Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

I have to say this... Sometimes the left leaves me SMH. #therearetwoextremes

Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

"@karenhunter: @TheReidReport : this is not a political issue, it's a parenting issue. And the cut-off age should be 18." / Amen!

Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

@MWJ1231 @sweetcop95 yes, and a parent should put you on it, and if you can't deal with your parent, a counselor or doc should help.

09/12/2011 02:50:13 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

@MWJ1231 @sweetcop95 leaving it to 11 and 12 YOs to manage their own healthcare is tantamount to saying they're on their own. They're kids.

09/12/2011 02:51:18 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

@MWJ1231 @sweetcop95 my 12 YO can't keep track of his ipod or remember to do the dishes. But he can make healthcare decisions and buy meds?

09/12/2011 02:52:37 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

@karenhunter I think this is a chance for the far left to vent at Obama for "abandoning liberalism again!!!" Meh.

09/12/2011 02:54:20 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

@lbutlr why should a doctor be involved??? Do YOU know what this drug is? You can't get birth control pills over the counter either btw...

09/12/2011 02:55:50 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

@dvnix they're acting as if its about 12 YOs managing their perfectly normal, active sex lives. Ga..

LEVONORGESTREL - ORAL (Plan B) side effects, medical uses, and drug interactions. http://t.co/mYT7VSbU / it's a DRUG, people.

09/12/2011 03:19:51 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

We've got to stop this attitude of drugs being just stronger vitamins. They're chemicals, w/ all sorts of potential interactions and side fx

09/12/2011 03:38:53 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

A 12 year old won't understand the potential risk of chemicals; won't follow the Plan B's own warning not to use it as birth control...

09/12/2011 03:39:24 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

Won't know what to do if one of the side effects kicks in, and their parents won't know either, if they're not aware what their child took.

09/12/2011 03:40:02 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

The child's pediatrician can't respond to serious side effects of a drug they aren't aware a child has taken.

09/12/2011 03:40:41 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

Chemicals are just that. They alter the body's chemistry. That's huge when done to a developing child as young as 11.

09/12/2011 03:41:08 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

On the Plan B website, it clearly states: no prescription needed if OVER 17 YEARS OLD. Even they didn't intend the drug for use by kids.

09/12/2011 03:42:22 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

MT @joanwalsh This doesn't just effect 10-11 yos-girls...everyone now has to ask a pharmacist, its not on shelf @MWJ1231/neither is the pill

09/12/2011 04:05:02 WIB
Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid

@MaryinNV @ak2sandiego @mommadona my teenagers can't clean their rooms as directed. They'd be stopped from buying Sudafed w/o me there. WTF?
