@timeoutcorner #PERF Whats difference between protesting parks v. school campus? Strategically, what do they prefer re: containment, $, etc?
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia School campuses have a tradition of dissent. Consider Kent State et al. Cops desperate to prevent student solidarity.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia Additionally, the potential pool of protesters in a school is vast, versus a park. Too many warm bodies, as it were.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia Also, since universities are incubators for good little consumers, disrupting that psychology is very threatening. :P
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia As for parks, most parks are not used anymore, since people hardly walk anywhere due to cars. Schools, on the other hand...
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia Cars have the big benefit, from a policing perspective, of keeping people isolated. Just as an aside.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia Because of differing use patterns of schools vs parks, containment is more difficult and therefore more critical in schools
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia Cost of policing is immaterial for counter-terrorism or dissent suppression. So it's not at all tactical/strategic concern.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia All that's really wanted is, frankly, to ensure the Bill of Rights is not exercised IRL, from speech to assembly.
cellÿ @CellyCelXIII
@timeoutcorner was thinking cause chucky tweeted nov 15 starting to see shift how occupy protests viewed? Maybe plan was to push to schools
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia Doubt it. The plan is to try and manage the perception of #OWS so that a hard crackdown will be broadly supported.
cellÿ @CellyCelXIII
@timeoutcorner 14th wex suggest peeps now see occupy as college thing-18 pike uc Davis-23rd Bratton fmr #PERF treasure&pres will investigate
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia Well, #OWS is a lot of things, but a mere college movement it isn't. ;)
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia The move described in the article is an accident. Unintended consequence of city-level crackdown.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia On the other hand, there might be some intent in trying to push #OWS onto college campuses.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia Obviously the strategies for campus crackdowns are even more brutal than the city-level ones. Consider #UCDavis, as you say
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia Whether or not an increased campus present of #OWS is planned, IMO, is immaterial.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia What will be material is the activation of Kent State-era plans for dealing with 'student revolts', through a DHS filter.
cellÿ @CellyCelXIII
@timeoutcorner I know that, you know that whoever will read this will know that, except you Chucky :) But what about others perception?
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia And that's an excellent question. Major part of US policing strategy is perception management. But #PERF isn't part of that
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia They're in charge of strategy for after control by perception management has failed. Hence his inept methods thereof. :P
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia I think the actual perception of #OWS is only going to improve, despite the best efforts of US policing & DHS, etc.
Red Seeker @timeoutcorner
@MarcelSanGarcia The intent is to marginalise, belittle, ridicule, and otherwise try to make it seem like #OWS 'deserves' a crackdown.

@timeoutcorner Oh your going to love Britton! Read the LA Times article real quick. He has said he promotes "force" against young rioters.
