I keep reading on my feed how MSM is "demonizing" Occupy movement. Except for RW media, Google/Nexis searches find the opposite to be true.
Milt Shook @miltshook
They ARE covering what's happening, but I don't see any major push against Occupiers. be careful to look for facts. Don't just believe.

@MiltShook problem is perception - even those who dont watch Faux News often get negative impression.i think this is a framing challenge
Milt Shook @miltshook
There's really no such thing as "the media," anyway. All news editors don't sit in a room, plot strategy. The very concept is silly.
Milt Shook @miltshook
That said, Occupiers should want good press, which means kissing a little press hiney. They need a good publicist to keep things going.

@MiltShook Good advise. I did notice a few days ago that http://t.co/skLt3oZP had absolutely no articles on positive OWS, just anti stuff.

@MiltShook M/S/M gives both sides RW media only gives their side that is why viewers think the news is biased
Melissa Allen Heath @melisheath
@MiltShook i think education is key, but also getting press that will include more than a sound bite. issues & msg are complex!
Milt Shook @miltshook
@melisheath That's part of the problem. They've taken pride in not fashioning a msg as yet. Big mistake.
Milt Shook @miltshook
Also, note that MOST Occupy protests get plenty of local coverage w/out controversy. Perhaps #OWS wd do well to copy what #OccupyLA does?
Melissa Allen Heath @melisheath
@MiltShook desire 4 consensus makes it hard but there IS a message just not simple. Grayson gave a good distillation, as did Cookie Monster.
William W. Bridgers @tieoutcord
@MiltShook Just what the guest on Alex Walkers show at 12:00 on MSNBC said need a better way to get their message out
Milt Shook @miltshook
One of the problems w/some progs is their natural aversion to "being popular." They see appealing to masses as "weakness."
AnnaB @azannaphx
@MiltShook Excellent point; Sometimes the story that doesn't get told influences more. I look hard at using omission as influencer in MSM.
4thVoice @4thVoice
@MiltShook no publicist, no head, no demands. Occupy is everywhere, making people think. Start thinking. Start fixing.
Melissa Allen Heath @melisheath
@MiltShook the movement is morphing. many think controversy of physical occupation not nec but Q is how to sustain without it
Milt Shook @miltshook
They assume that, if a notion is popular, it's a "sell-out." They look on anything the public buys with suspicion.
Milt Shook @miltshook
Unfortunately, unless you're popular, you don't win elections. If you don't win elections, the OTHER guys get to make policy.
Melissa Allen Heath @melisheath
@MiltShook no i disagree on popular appeal. msg of being the 99% is need to appeal to & rep the masses. Q is how, distributed decisionmaking
Milt Shook @miltshook
@4thVoice They are making people think. But without a coherent msg, there's little to "think" about.
Milt Shook @miltshook
If progressives are going to make "progress" (it's in our name), we have to TRY to become popular. Sell our ideas to everyone.
Hawkeye @NOUVEAUXDEBUTS
@MiltShook all of life's a popularity contest. Just let me go slit my wrists now. Ugh!
Milt Shook @miltshook
No one outside of the right wing likes the right wing. Only, no one likes us much either, because we seem just like them; negative.
