A Demand for a Return to REAL Capitalism

This is a rant I made earlier today regarding the bastardization of capitalism that's happening. A request for a return to a populist economy

Law enforcement used to go after people who sold BS for a living, throw them in jail. Now we call them CEOs, give them bonuses.

For about 9 years, the most risk averse ppl in our society sold securities to insure their risk using our money, and stuck US w/the losses

Now, they wonder why something like #ows exists, and they want it gone because they don't want to give back the money they stole.

Well, here's a clue, folks. It's OUR money, not theirs. WE the people print the money.

It's our money, and people get to borrow some to use while they're here, based on their contribution to society. That's capitalism.

Only now, they're not borrowing it. They're trying to keep it. Ppl who're ACTUALLY working for living having to do with less because of it.

You're supposed to do a day's work, and pay for the things to make your life better. Some get more, some get less, and that's okay.

Milt Shook @miltshook

What's not okay is when some ppl do pretty much nothing except take from others, don't give anything back, which is increasingly the case.

What does a health insurance company DO? They take our money and pay our bills with it. In return, they get to scrape as much as possible?

We have to get back to a reasonable capitalist model, in which someone provides a product or service, gets paid for it.

Right now, too much money is being made by manipulating money, and producing exactly dick. We're relying on "bubbles," made up of fake money

If someone builds solar panels and makes plenty of money, fine. If someone invests in the solar panel company, makes money, fine.

But if someone is making money by selling insurance that shelters risk for anyone investing in the solar company, not fine.

If you have rich parties who have a vested interest in failure -- who look at failure as a positive -- guess what happens to our economy.

The Internet offers a lot of opportunity for new commerce, but we must make sure the current "commerce" model can't interfere.

We need a new paradigm, where bigger is not automatically better, where sustainability is more important than growth.

We have to foster an economic environment in which competition is tempered with fairness, and where anyone with a good idea can enter market

Example: Did you know hybrid technology for autos is almost a century old? Imagine if that tech had been allowed to develop for 100 yrs.

We MUST place more emphasis on what is good for the country, less on profitability for private corps.

We must restore fiduciary responsibility to companies, make them not only accountable to stockholders, but also to the country, communities

Jefferson warned agst dynasty, and we're seeing it now. "Certain families" get to carry their wealth thru generations without earning.

It's time to restore a high tax rate for those who choose not to invest in America, with tax incentives for those who do.

28/10/2011 00:17:16 WIB
Milt Shook @miltshook

Those who inherit wealth should be subject to the same taxation as the rest of us who work for a living, esp. for amounts over $1 million.

28/10/2011 00:18:31 WIB
Milt Shook @miltshook

Fair tax rates do not mean equal tax rates. Burden on $1 million/yr pays 20% not the same as $50K/yr paying 20%.
