On Recovery, Six Months Later

Earlier this morning, I reflected on the last six months, to the day of the beginning of a breakdown which led me to go seek therapy.

Funny how things change in six months...

Six months ago today, I was over the moon. I was on a natural high. Nothing felt impossible...then the bottom fell out.

I only notice that it was six months today, because I looked at the calendar and checked.
vcthree @vcthree
I had something good going, but I think I pushed it a little too fast. Wound up losing it, and in the process, lost my mind.

The weekend was terrible. I was delirious from trying to fix a computer hack, and then depressed--to the point of crying.

I decided that Monday that it had to change; that I had to change.

I know @MarkBrooksVA had been on me a year prior to seek mental counseling. But I think I needed my own impetus to finally go.

That Monday, I called my school's health & wellness, and I talked for an hour. They referred me to United Way...

...United Way referred me to Meck County, and they referred me here: http://t.co/bifVVzeC

I went in on Wednesday, a total wreck. I've been going there for half a year, now. They've helped tremendously.

I have a therapist, and I go to group therapy sessions. I also decided to get a managed case worker to help with other things.
vcthree @vcthree
So...I'm grateful to them for their assistance for the last six months.
vcthree @vcthree
And I'm learning to manage problems, instead of reacting to them adversely.
vcthree @vcthree
I've still got a way to go, yet. I'm not "cured", just a little better off than before.
vcthree @vcthree
As I've said before: the decision to go to Monarch was the best I've made this year. It saved me.
vcthree @vcthree
If I hadn't gone in...well...
vcthree @vcthree
...I suppose things might have gone differently.
vcthree @vcthree
I'm just thankful I did. And I will continue to.
vcthree @vcthree
As for what happened six months ago? Disappointed, yes, but I've learned a lesson, too.
vcthree @vcthree
It's something my mom told me a couple weeks ago: I have to be more receptive, and less pushy. 45-55, not ALL-or-nothing.
vcthree @vcthree
That's a difficulty for me, given my past. But it's something I'm going to work at.
vcthree @vcthree
But for now: I'm appreciating these moments of peace and clarity, and preparing for the challenges ahead.
