My problem with std. testing at primary is, we will have to publish results to the DES thus the beginnings of league tables #edchatie

@simonmlewis what wrong with league tables? If people understand statistics and reasoning about marginal change they seem fine #edchatie

fboss @fboss

@simonmlewis Are you talking about the School Self Evaluation there Simon? Never thought of league tables @ Primary level. #edchatie

Simon Lewis @simonmlewis

@iamreddave league tables essentially encourage cherry-picking and teaching to the test, neither desirable outcomes #edchatie

@simonmlewis that is Luke saying hospitals aren't the sole cause of death so we shouldnt measure hospital hygiene standards #edchatie

24/09/2012 23:13:19 WIB
iamreddave @iamreddave

@simonmlewis it is if the test is the ability to read. A very low standard is being missed by 1/4 this shouldn't be hidden #edchatie

Simon Lewis @simonmlewis

@iamreddave Children's test results don't show ability of current teacher. Need to use correct measurement tool. #edchatie

@dbulfin11 year old that can speak Eng should be able to read it. Otherwise they have been done a grave disservice by the state #edchatie

25/09/2012 00:34:27 WIB
iamreddave @iamreddave

@dbulfin hiding illiteracy is doing no one favours. Not the student, not teachers, not the state, not the population #edchatie

25/09/2012 00:35:58 WIB
iamreddave @iamreddave

@simonmlewis basic literacy must be the minimum acceptable level. Surely testing that isn't asking too much? #edchatie

25/09/2012 00:57:40 WIB
Simon Lewis @simonmlewis

@iamreddave Only useful with baseline data. Children don't all start at the same point nor do they continue at the same speed. #edchatie

@simonmlewis @iamreddave Agree. We looking @ standardising students or teaching for set standards? Not all on same page/exam paper #edchatie

25/09/2012 01:53:28 WIB
iamreddave @iamreddave

@fboss I'm saying that if at 11 you can't read you've been failed. And not by 1 teacher. We need to know where this is happening #edchatie
