so I think here are the key things to consider as we wait for details if, indeed, there is a deal:

1) How big and what is included in the "across the board cuts" in the trigger? 2) how deep would medicare cuts be in trigger? ...

3) How big would defense cuts be in trigger? 4) Can revenue be considered in the committee? Even Boehner's bill would have so it should ...

there is clearly enough there to get Dems to deal. Anything w/o revenues would be. But is there enough to make GOP deal?
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
specifically: would they be willing to swallow the included Defense cuts in the trigger to get the other cuts and avoid raising taxes?
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
and like a couple people have said, we've had reports that there was a deal before and it hasn't panned out so...we'll see
Laura @muhajabah
@fleetadmiralj also, what kind of Medicare cuts? To hospitals, or benefit cuts? They'd already identified good chunk of non-ben cuts before
Laura @muhajabah
@fleetadmiralj if they were really cunning it would be to war costs
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
@muhajabah i wouldn't think the GOP would go for that but we'll see
Laura @muhajabah
@fleetadmiralj yeah I don't think so either but it's the same number so I couldn't help but think of it
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
@muhajabah the thing is that the trigger is SUPPOSED to be unacceptable to both sides
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
@muhajabah so large cuts, even to Medicare and SS was expected in the trigger. the catch is whether there is anything the GOP hates in it
Laura @muhajabah
@fleetadmiralj I think that's what the defense cuts are supposed to be. Good point though. Chances of trigger going into effect seem high
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
@muhajabah well, and they would have to be large enough defense cuts that the GOP would prefer new revenues over those cuts, preferably
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
@muhajabah though if they're willing to allow certain defense cuts in the trigger but not revenue, then that seems kind of suspect
Laura @muhajabah
@fleetadmiralj honestly at this point I'll take anything that's not TOO damaging. Which is what GOP count on. But still true
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
@muhajabah that's what happens when one side holds the nuke and is willing to detonate it
Laura @muhajabah
@fleetadmiralj yep, and the electorate gave them the bomb, so we need to take what we can get
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
@muhajabah and people are like "well, Obama has to push it to default to show he's serious" problem with that is they wouldn't find that BAD
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
@muhajabah they could simultaneously attack Obama for defaulting AND get what they want
[Citation Needed] πŸ‡© @fleetadmiralj
@muhajabah so Obama holding out and defaulting is basically letting the GOP have it's cake and eat it too
