Tweeted is a better word RT @jilliancyork: Senegal: The Protests Will be “Twitterized” · Global Voices http://t.co/ng4h53o
Zach Peterson @zachprague
@chrisalbon @jilliancyork I would prefer the protests be "effective" rather than any variant of the word "Twitter"
Brian Conley @BaghdadBrian
i think its pretty clear twitter has rarely had a strong impact operationally in movement success @zachprague @chrisalbon @jilliancyork
jillian @jilliancyork
@BaghdadBrian @zachprague @chrisalbon Operationally, sure. But in terms of getting external attention...
jillian @jilliancyork
@BaghdadBrian @zachprague @chrisalbon Also, just because it hasn't (and I would agree) doesn't mean it can't. Still too new.
Brian Conley @BaghdadBrian
I take it back, i believe it was operational during g8 in pittsburgh, possibly previously @joshmull ? @jilliancyork @zachprague @chrisalbon
Josh Mull @joshmull
@BaghdadBrian @jilliancyork Operationally useful on small scale (ex. tracking police staging, coordinating action). Not much, but notable.
jillian @jilliancyork
@alphaleah @BaghdadBrian That's not "operational," it's external attention. We all agree that matters.
Brian Conley @BaghdadBrian
sure, but twitter was rarely if at all utilized directly by iranians inside iran @alphaleah @joshmull @jilliancyork @zachprague @chrisalbon
jillian @jilliancyork
@joshmull @BaghdadBrian I would say it's been operationally useful in lots of smaller situations. Even watched that yesterday in #tahrir
Brian Conley @BaghdadBrian
yep, #egypt is the one international context where it seems to have begun playing a larger role and being adopted @jilliancyork @joshmull
Zach Peterson @zachprague
Would like to have @GEsfandiari weigh in re: Twitter in Iran. But I think @BaghdadBrian is right. @alphaleah @jilliancyork @chrisalbon
Brian Conley @BaghdadBrian
I dont think u can confirm iranians in iran tweeted videos, outside supporters/family yes @alphaleah @jilliancyork @zachprague @chrisalbon
oxfordgirl @oxfordgirl
@BaghdadBrian those videos got out somehow, & a lot of them wr tweeted. I got Neda vid w/in 15 mins of the event - came from inside Iran
Leah McElrath 🏳️‍🌈 @leahmcelrath
@BaghdadBrian @jilliancyork @zachprague @chrisalbon Almost every single student at Tehran U who tweeted appears to have been arrested.

One source who sent twitter messages from Iran was @iranbaan (Journalist, Fereshteh Ghazi). Her tweets were invaluable for me to understand what was going on in June 2009. Also, to ascertain whether twitters from Iran were significant or not, hard research
