Cold Fish, a movie based on Saitama Dog Lover Serial Killings is out in the UK on June 27th. I did commentary for it. http://amzn.to/mOjU4J

I saw the film at a theatre and was really impressed at the attention to detail until it veered off into pure fantasy in the last quarter.

Real life is often more bizarre than fiction and the Saitama Dog Lover Serial Killings is weird enough not to need embellishment. A shame.
The actor playing the serial killer in the film was so reminiscent of Sekine Gen that it was unsettling. The same charisma, presence, voice.
Sekine Gen was the first serial killer I ever met. While he was still just a suspect, I met him at a dog show and we had a short little chat
I said to Sekine, "They say you've killed over 10 people. Is it true?" His response, "I've never killed anyone. But I might start with you."
@shinpuren Yes. When a customer was haggling over the price of a dog, Sekine cut off its ear, threw it at him & said, "now it's discounted."
@shinpuren Of course, the customer was so freaked out and scared, he bought the dog. Sekine was a nut case. But good at disposing bodies.

@jakeadelstein Heard about your interview on the upcoming @thirdwindow DVD extras for Cold Fish from @Norman_England. Looking forward to it.
@jgtokyo Thanks! It was interesting having a chance to compare the real-life events to the movie version.
shinpuren @shinpuren
@jakeadelstein jeez, normal serial killers usually have some cute fetchy they wouldnt harm in a million years, obviously not dogs
@shinpuren I don't think there was anything he wouldn't harm. Maybe his own kids.
Jason Gray @jgtokyo
I bet you'll never feel the same about the word「透明」ever again. I interviewed the screenwriter of Cold Fish a while back http://bit.ly/fxN0lO
@jgtokyo That was exactly the word Sekine used. 透明 (tomei) transparent, invisible. When he says those lines in the movie, it was creepy.

@jakeadelstein did u ever get to meet that guy who ate that french girl in the 70s or 80s?
@shinpuren Yes, but only briefly. Creepy fellow. There is no justice in him being allowed to roam free. It was a horrible crime.
Garry McConnachie @TheGMcConnachie
@jakeadelstein Cold Fish is a head-fuck of a movie and while it's hard to say I 'enjoyed' it, I have no hesitation recommending it to others
@TheGMcConnachie It is a movie that is very hard to forget. I'd recommend it but only to people who had a strong stomach.
shinpuren @shinpuren
