#a11ychat Do u do transcribe / caption in house using "humans" or do u use "transcribers" or "speech recognition" Or do u outsource?

Elle Waters isn't here anymore. @Nethermind
@goodwitch Typically, we've used an automated solution and fixed it manually after the fact, but not sure how scalable that is. #a11ychat
Monica Ackermann @MonicaGigs
right now we don't have a specific strategy but where we have captions it is usually done by "humans" #a11ychat
Glenda Sims @goodwitch
#a11ychat I've found that outsourcing is the most effective use of our time and money.
Monica Ackermann @MonicaGigs
Starting to look at automated solutions but need more data about extent of manual fixes needed after the fact. #a11ychat

@MonicaGigs Does your company have a lot of videos? I worry about not having a strategy ourselves. #a11ychat

Outsourcing captioning has been proven to be more cost-effective in almost all cases. Highly recommend http://t.co/ZkMLhcam. #a11ychat

@jared_w_smith That link is SUPER helpful, thank you! I think we're headed towards a full on captioning strategy finally. #a11ychat
Glenda Sims @goodwitch
#a11ychat I do think "revoicing" using speech recognition software is reasonable. But I still outsource to Automatic Sync. Faster + Quality
Glenda Sims @goodwitch
+1 Outsourcing captioning has been proven to be more cost-effective in almost all cases. Highly recommend http://t.co/pcrhYW4M. #a11ychat

#a11ychat - what do you think is an acceptable error rate in transcripts? 10%, 5%, 3% or 1% error rate?
Elle Waters isn't here anymore. @Nethermind
If we're talking about #captioning should we also be talking about sign language tracks to help with literacy? (AAA) #a11ychat
Elle Waters isn't here anymore. @Nethermind
Seriously, on that note, in this multimedia age, why aren't we aiming for AAA with video and audio? What are the real obstacles? #a11ychat
Monica Ackermann @MonicaGigs
Video posts by different lines of business in various formats (youtube, various shades of flash) challenge for cohesive strategy #a11ychat
Elle Waters isn't here anymore. @Nethermind
@MonicaGigs An overly ambitious enterprise redesign will help with that (or kill you in the process). We went entirely DQPlayer #a11ychat
Deque Systems @dequesystems
If your company has multimedia that needs to be made accessible, you may want to check out our white paper on CVAA regulations. #a11ychat
Glenda Sims @goodwitch
#a11ychat Ability to understand captions greatly degrades at 3% errors. You should shoot for error rate of 1% or less to ensure quality.
